You're not the only one if you notice a red and itchy scalp following a regular shampoo. Such reactions are common and might even spread to the face, eyelids, ears, and neck. We suggest you try shampoos free from fragrances or reduced allergens to manage these sensitivities. Though shampoos are meant to enhance hair and scalp health, many contain over 30 ingredients, some of which could lead to contact dermatitis. These ingredients often include fragrances, botanicals, and surfactants.

Shampoos for Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis
Specific medicated shampoos may be more effective if you have dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. Here are some options:
The allergens most commonly present in shampoos are as follows: fragrance, cocamidopropyl betaine, methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone, formaldehyde releasers, propylene glycol, vitamin E, parabens, benzophenones, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, and methyldibromoglutaronitrile/phenoxyethanol.
