Paraffin Wax Bath for Hand Dermatitis

A paraffin wax bath can be very soothing for dry, irritated hands, Paraffin is a natural emollient that softens and smooths skin. Treating your hands with paraffin wax may help create an extra layer that retains the skin’s natural oils.

There are many brands available, and most are inexpensive. Here are some examples of some products available online:

Here are instructions on how to use a paraffin wax bath for dry, cracked hands:

1. Wash your hands and dry them.

2. Dip your hand into the wax. Your fingertips should go in first. Keep your fingers separated and submerge your hand

3. Remove your hand after it has been coated with wax for 3-4 seconds

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3: Dip your hand 5-8 times, waiting a few seconds between each dip. This allows layers of wax to form over your hand. Keep the fingers spread wide and avoid bending your fingers or wrist joints

5. Immediately cover your hand with a plastic bag and wrap with a hand towel Wait 15-20 minutes

6. Remove the towel, plastic bag and cooled wax after 15-20 minutes.

7. Return the wax from your hand to the paraffin unit for reuse
